South dakota badlands Photo Workshop (part II)

Pioneer in drought angry with god.

Why are my Badlands Photo Workshops my most popular workshop?

As stated in my last post, The wonder, the beauty in its vastness, its strange and unusual landscape, the diverse wildlife are all huge factors. But there is something else. Something with depth, something tangible, something enlightening. This is a place that you will find deeper meaning in and of yourself. It is more of a feeling than a particular thing.

Couple this feeling with an intense study of the photographic arts from the ground up, and you will quickly see why this workshop is life changing; artistically and personally.

So what is this workshop all about?

If you are not familiar with this workshop series I put on, it consists of 5 days and 4 nights of challenge based assignments to flush you out of your comfort zone and break you down, followed by sleep deprivation, amazing food and drink and then a rebuilding of your definition of photography. This workshop is never meant to teach you how to be ME or to increase the eye candy in your portfolio. It is simply meant to unlock YOU as a photographer.

This workshop isn’t the kind where you will stand in a line, shooting the same model while I feed you all of the camera settings. I believe that there is no learning in that. You will work for every single frame you make and you will be rewarded greatly! You will discover what you have to offer the world that extends far beyond a pretty picture.

This workshop is as unique as the folks who trust in me and fly all the way here to have their "eyes wiped clean" as one attendee described it. It is designed to make the toughest fail and the bravest cower. Once the wall falls we can truly learn why we are photographers. It is community based. We ALL learn from one another.

So, who should come to this workshop?

The idea here is that it takes more than an expensive camera to make photographs that transcend both a visual and a physical sensation. It takes YOU. YOU are the special ingredient. This workshop is designed to blend together your beliefs, your personal history, your idiosyncrasies, your tastes, and your technical skills, into what will become your own creative process.

I believe this idea extends into every genre of the photographic arts.

So whether you are a wedding or portrait photographer, documentary or fine art photographer, you will leave with a deeper knowledge of why you photograph the way that you do and how to project your message in these photographs with intensity.

I am helping others get to the root of their artistic being.

I am asking them to dig deep, be vulnerable, and soul search with great focus. What a better location to tease this out of them than here in the South Dakota Badlands.

Here are a few of my favorite photographs over the years.
