How I saw 2022

2022 was a year of new explorations. It was full of wonder. and a year of loss. Nothing seemed that long ago but the future was lifted above the present once again.

We were just beginning to emerge from the safety of our pandemic sanctuaries. We gave rise and attention to new communities, sought new riches and braved the unknown.

2022 was for warriors not afraid to come out of hiding and not afraid to show the world what we were looking for. Our masks were coming off. No matter the cost.

Some demanded to be seen, while others hid under bombed out rubble.

Human rights were stripped again and again.

Violence invaded our homefront. Or maybe just down the street.

The family tree lost some branches, but its roots dove deep into the clay.

Me? I loved, I mourned, I explored. I made images, words and songs to understand the world we live in. Not the year, but the world. Maybe my understanding could create a ripple of hope and a sense of wonder.

I didn’t take the short cuts and was always lured by the question of what's over the next hill.

Sometimes it's in the sky, sometimes under my feet, the things that hold my interest.

Everything fills the in between. And even though “everything” seems like a lot, sometimes nothing can be found. This space is where you meet your explorer.

This is also exactly where anxiety will find you.
